Before you begin
Tools
- TR8 Torx Security screwdriver
- T6 Torx screwdriver
- Plastic opening tool

Safety
- Remove all batteries before disassembling to prevent electrical short circuits.

Step-by-step

Remove the battery cover
1 minPress down on the battery door latch on the back of the controller and slide the cover upward to remove it.

Remove the AA batteries
1 minTake out both AA batteries or the rechargeable battery pack from the compartment.

Pry off the left grip panel
3 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the seam along the side of the left grip and pry outward to release the plastic clips.

Pry off the right grip panel
3 minInsert the opening tool into the seam on the right side grip and pry firmly until the panel snaps free.

Puncture the hidden label screw cover
1 minUse a precision screwdriver tip to puncture the center of the barcode label in the battery compartment to reveal the hidden screw.

Unscrew the five housing screws
4 minUse a TR8 Torx Security screwdriver to remove all five security screws securing the front and back enclosures.

Lift off the front faceplate
2 minTurn the controller front-side up and lift the plastic faceplate straight off the body.

Remove the rear enclosure panel
2 minTurn the controller over and lift away the rear housing cover, exposing the rumble motors and circuit boards.

Remove the motherboard screws
3 minUse a T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the top circuit board to the plastic mid-frame.

Pull off the worn thumbstick caps
2 minGrasp the rubberized analog thumbstick caps and pull them straight up off the potentiometer metal posts.

Install the replacement thumbstick caps
2 minAlign the flat sides of the new thumbstick stems with the metal joystick posts and push down until fully seated.

Reinstall the rear enclosure and body screws
5 minPlace the rear panel onto the chassis, reattach the front faceplate, and tighten the five TR8 screws firmly.
