Step-by-step

Remove the bottom outer accent panel
3 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the seam on the bottom rear corner and pry up to release the plastic clips securing the lower accent panel.

Detach the bottom casing
4 minUse a spudger to release the remaining locking tabs around the perimeter and lift off the lower plastic case.

Unscrew the green chassis screws
5 minUse a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the green screws marked with numbers that hold the internal metal chassis to the upper case.

Separate the inner metal chassis
2 minLift the entire internal metal housing straight up out of the plastic outer shell.

Remove the top metal shield screws
4 minUse a T10 Torx driver to unbolt all remaining screws securing the top metal cover plate.

Lift off the top metal cover plate
2 minGently lift the top metal plate off the chassis to expose the internal drives and power supply.

Disconnect the power supply cable
2 minSqueeze the locking latch on the main power harness and disconnect it from the motherboard socket.

Remove the internal power supply unit
3 minLift the power supply unit straight up out of the metal frame and set it aside.

Disconnect the optical drive cables

Remove the hard drive tray
2 minLift the hard drive tray and its rubber mounting grommets out of the metal chassis.

Unscrew the Wi-Fi card
2 minUse a T8 Torx screwdriver to remove the single screw holding the Wi-Fi board to the front metal frame.

Detach the Wi-Fi board
2 minPull the Wi-Fi card straight out from its header connector on the motherboard.

Unscrew the front power button board
3 minRemove the T8 Torx screws securing the front RF/power button module to the metal frame.

Disconnect the front power button board
2 minPull the power button board directly out from its motherboard header.

Remove the motherboard retaining screws
5 minUse a T8 Torx driver to remove all remaining small silver screws securing the motherboard to the bottom metal shell.

Lift the motherboard out of the frame
3 minGently lift the motherboard by its edges to remove it from the bottom metal casing.

Remove the fan and heatsink assembly
6 minUse a flathead screwdriver to pry off the X-clamp arms from the underside of the motherboard, then lift off the heatsink and fan.
