Step-by-step
- 1
Disconnect the power supply
2 minUnplug the Xbox 360 power supply brick from the wall outlet and the console. Wait at least 30 minutes to allow high-voltage capacitors to naturally discharge.

Peel off the rubber feet
2 minUse tweezers or a flathead screwdriver to pry off the four rubber feet located on the bottom of the power supply brick.

Remove the casing screws
3 minUse a Torx T10 screwdriver to remove the four hidden screws beneath the rubber feet.

Pry open the outer shell
4 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the seam between the top and bottom outer plastic casing. Gently pry along the perimeter to release the plastic clips.

Lift off the top housing
1 minSeparate and remove the top plastic cover from the internal assembly.

Remove the inner metal shield
2 minLift the power supply circuit board assembly out of the bottom plastic casing along with its surrounding metal EMI shield.

Unscrew the metal shield
3 minRemove the Phillips screws holding the top metal EMI shield to the main board.

Open the metal shielding
2 minFold open the top metal EMI shield to reveal the circuit board components and cooling fan.

Safely discharge the main capacitor
3 minPlace a high-wattage resistor across the terminals of the large primary capacitor to safely bleed off any remaining voltage.

Inspect internal components
3 minCheck the circuit board for swollen or leaking electrolytic capacitors, burnt traces, or a blown fuse.

Desolder damaged components
6 minApply flux and heat the solder joints of the faulty capacitor or fuse using a soldering iron, then clear the molten solder with desoldering wick.

Clean the PCB pad area
2 minClean the desoldered board area using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab to remove residual flux and debris.

Solder replacement components
5 minInsert the new capacitor or fuse into the board, paying close attention to polarity, and solder the leads securely in place.

Clean the cooling fan
3 minHold the fan blades still and use compressed air to blow out dust accumulated inside the fan shroud and heatsinks.

Reinstall the metal shield
3 minFold the top metal EMI shield back over the board and secure it with the Phillips screws.

Reassemble the plastic housing
3 minPlace the internal assembly back into the lower shell and press the top plastic casing down until it snaps closed.

Secure the outer screws
2 minReinsert and tighten the four Torx T10 screws into the bottom of the power supply casing.

Reattach the rubber feet
1 minPress the four rubber feet firmly back into their recesses over the screw holes.
