Step-by-step

Unlatch the hard drive unit
1 minPress the hard drive release button located on the top or side of the Xbox 360 console.

Remove the hard drive enclosure
1 minPull the hard drive unit straight away from the console body to detach it.

Remove bottom enclosure screws
2 minUse a Torx T6 screwdriver to remove the four visible screws on the bottom of the enclosure.

Pry open top plastic shell
2 minInsert a plastic opening tool along the seam of the enclosure to unclip and remove the top cover.

Peel internal foil seal
1 minUse tweezers to carefully peel back the metallic shield tape covering the internal casing joint.

Unfasten inner shield screws
2 minUse a Torx T10 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the inner metal shield together.

Remove top metal shield
1 minLift the upper half of the metal shielding off the internal 2.5-inch hard drive assembly.

Disconnect SATA cable assembly
2 minGently pull the combined SATA power and data connector straight off the hard drive pins.

Lift out original hard drive
1 minRemove the old hard drive from the bottom metal casing shield and set it aside.

Position replacement hard drive
1 minPlace the new 2.5-inch hard drive into the bottom metal shield in the same orientation.

Connect SATA cable assembly
1 minFirmly press the SATA connector onto the interface ports of the new hard drive.

Fit top metal shield
1 minLower the top half of the metal shield over the replacement drive, aligning the screw holes.

Secure inner shield screws
2 minReinstall the four Torx T10 screws to clamp the metal shielding securely.

Reattach top plastic shell
2 minAlign the top plastic enclosure cover over the assembly and press down until it snaps closed.

Secure bottom enclosure screws
2 minThread and tighten the four Torx T6 screws into the bottom of the enclosure.

Snap hard drive unit onto console
1 minAlign the hard drive enclosure with the Xbox 360 bay and push until the latch clicks into place.
