Step-by-step

Unplug all external console cables
2 minDisconnect the power brick cable, HDMI or AV cable, and any USB accessories from the console.

Remove the hard drive slot cover
2 minSlide the hard drive latch toward the front of the console and pull the drive bay door free.

Extract the internal hard drive
1 minPull the fabric tab firmly to slide the hard drive out of its internal bay.

Pry off the top vent panel
4 minInsert a plastic spudger into the seam of the top plastic vent and pop the plastic clips loose.

Detach the bottom vent panel
4 minUse a spudger around the edges of the bottom vent grid to release its plastic tabs.

Release the outer case side latches
6 minInsert an opening tool into the vent holes along the rear seam to unlock the internal plastic clips.

Separate the outer plastic housing
3 minGently pull the top and bottom halves of the plastic shell apart from the rear seam.

Unclip the front faceplate bezel
4 minRelease the perimeter tabs holding the front bezel to the internal metal chassis and swing it forward.

Disconnect the front RF module ribbon
3 minCarefully detach the thin ribbon cable connecting the power button RF board to the main board.

Remove the RF board screws
3 minUse a Torx T8 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the front power board module.

Unscrew the internal metal casing
5 minRemove the long Torx T10 screws from the underside of the metal chassis frame.

Lift away the upper metal shield
2 minPull the top metal RF shield straight up off the motherboard and internal components.

Desolder the damaged power socket pins
10 minApply heat with a soldering iron and use desoldering braid to clean old solder off the power port pins.

Remove the old DC power port
4 minGently pull the power connector jack free from the rear corner of the motherboard.

Clean the power socket solder pads
3 minWipe the PCB contact area with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab to clear residue.

Solder the replacement power connector socket
8 minInsert the new power jack, align the pins with the motherboard, and solder each pin securely.

Reassemble the metal shield and chassis
5 minLower the metal shield back over the motherboard and tighten all Torx T10 screws.

Reattach the RF board and outer casing
8 minReconnect the RF module ribbon, secure its T8 screws, and snap the outer plastic panels back into place.
