Step-by-step

Remove hard drive bay door
2 minSlide the hard drive bay release latch toward the back of the console and remove the plastic bay door.

Extract hard drive
1 minPull firmly on the fabric tab attached to the hard drive to slide it straight out of the bay.

Pry off top vent panel
3 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the edge gap around the top vent panel to unhook the retention tabs and lift it off.

Pry off bottom vent panel

Release side bezel clips
5 minInsert a spudger into the seam along the side panels to disengage the internal interlocking plastic clips.

Unscrew Wi-Fi module
2 minRemove the single T10 Torx screw securing the Wi-Fi card to the side frame and pull the module out.

Detach front faceplate bezel
3 minRelease the plastic clips holding the front faceplate to the chassis and pull the faceplate away.

2 minRemove the two T8 Torx screws securing the front power button RF board to the internal metal shield.

Disconnect RF board ribbon
2 minPull the RF board directly forward off the header pins connected to the front of the motherboard.

Remove chassis screws
4 minRemove the five long silver T10 Torx screws from the metal casing that bind the motherboard assembly together.

Lift off upper metal shield
2 minLift the top half of the metal casing straight up to expose the optical drive and cooling fan.

Disconnect optical drive cables
3 minUnplug both the power cable and SATA data cable from the rear of the optical drive, then remove the drive.

Remove motherboard from chassis
4 minCarefully tilt and lift the motherboard out of the lower metal casing tray.

Desolder damaged motherboard components
12 minApply flux to the target joint and use a soldering iron with desoldering braid to clear solder from faulty component pins.
