   Unplug the power and accessory cables

   Disconnect the power supply cable, HDMI cable, and any connected USB devices from the back of the console. Place the console on a flat, clean work surface.

   Remove the hard drive cover plate

   Locate the hard drive bay cover on the right side panel of the console. Slide the release latch backward and pull the cover away from the case.

   Extract the internal hard drive

   Pull firmly on the fabric tab attached to the hard drive to slide it out of its slot. Set the hard drive aside in a safe location.

   Pry off the top vent panel

   Insert a flat plastic spudger into the seam between the top vent cover and outer plastic case. Carefully pop the plastic clips to detach and remove the panel.

   Detach the bottom vent panel

   Insert your spudger into the bottom vent seams and release the retaining tabs. Lift the bottom vent grill clear of the main housing.

   Release the perimeter case latches

   Use an opening pick or spudger to disengage the plastic locking tabs running along the rear and side seams of the outer case.

   Lift away the upper housing

   Gently separate the upper half of the outer plastic shell from the lower shell. Lift it straight up to avoid snapping internal tabs.

   Unscrew the internal metal shield

   Use a TR10 Torx screwdriver to remove the five long screws securing the metal cage assembly. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.

   Remove the top metal shield

   Lift the top metal EMI shield off the internal components to reveal the main motherboard and fan shroud.

    Disconnect the fan power plug

    Locate the 4-pin fan connector attached to the motherboard near the heatsink. Carefully pull the connector straight up using your fingers or tweezers.

    Unclip the cooling fan shroud

    Press the plastic locking tabs on the sides of the fan shroud where it attaches to the heatsink. Tilt the plastic shroud upward away from the board.

    Remove the defective fan

    Lift the fan module out of the metal frame and fan shroud slot. Use compressed air to clean any accumulated dust inside the cavity.

    Position the new replacement fan

    Align the replacement fan into the duct housing with the cable oriented toward the motherboard socket. Press it into the shroud until it snaps into place.

    Plug in the new fan cable

    Align the fan's 4-pin connector with the header on the motherboard and press down firmly until seated.

    Reinstall the metal shield and casing

    Lower the metal EMI shield over the assembly and secure it using the five TR10 Torx screws. Snap the top and side plastic panels back onto the console frame.
