Unplug Power and Cables
1 minEnsure the Xbox 360 E is completely powered off, then disconnect the power supply cord, HDMI cable, and all attached peripherals.

Remove Hard Drive Cover
1 minSlide the latch on the right-side vent panel toward the rear of the console and pull the hard drive door free.

Extract Hard Drive
1 minPull firmly on the cloth tab attached to the internal hard drive to slide it out of its bay.

Pry Off Top Vent Panel
2 minInsert a spudger into the seam between the top plastic vent panel and the outer case to release the retaining clips.

Pry Off Bottom Vent Panel
2 minWork a spudger around the lower vent panel perimeter to disengage its plastic locking tabs and detach it.

Unclip Rear Outer Case
3 minUse an opening tool along the rear seam of the outer housing to unlatch the interlocking case tabs.

Separate Top Plastic Shell
2 minLift the top outer plastic case away from the internal metal chassis assembly.

Detach Front Faceplate Assembly
2 minUnhook the front bezel clips from the metal frame and pull the faceplate straight off.

Remove Chassis Torx Screws
3 minUse a TR10 Torx screwdriver to remove the long screws securing the upper metal shield to the bottom chassis.

Lift Off Upper Metal Shield
1 minLift the top metal EMI shield straight up off the inner components.

Tilt Optical Disc Drive
1 minGently lift the back edge of the disc drive to gain access to the cabling plugged into its rear ports.

Disconnect Drive Cables
1 minUnplug the red SATA data cable and power cable from the rear of the optical drive.

Remove Disc Drive Assembly
1 minLift the optical disc drive straight out of the console chassis.

Open Disc Drive Enclosure
2 minRemove the four small Phillips screws on the underside of the disc drive and remove its metal cover.

Clean Laser Lens and Mechanism
3 minDip a cotton swab in high-concentration isopropyl alcohol and gently clean the optical laser lens and drive rails.

Reinstall Disc Drive and Test
4 minReassemble the drive casing, connect the power and SATA cables, and set the drive back into the chassis frame.
