Step-by-step

Remove the battery cover
1 minPress the latch tab at the top of the battery compartment and lift the battery pack off the controller.

Remove the AA batteries
1 minTake out both AA batteries from the battery pack or holder.

Expose the hidden center screw
2 minPeel back or puncture the barcode sticker inside the battery compartment to reveal the hidden security screw.

Remove the rear body screws
3 minUse a T8 Security Torx driver to remove all seven screws from the back shell, including the center hidden screw.

Lift off the rear shell
2 minCarefully pull the rear housing straight up and off the controller assembly.

Unseat the rumble motors
2 minLift both rumble motors out of their plastic retaining slots in the front housing.

Remove the circuit board

Pull off the analog thumbsticks
1 minGrasp each thumbstick cap firmly and pull it straight up off the metal potentiometer shaft.

Remove the conductive rubber pads
2 minPeel the soft silicone rubber pads off the circuit board contacts for the D-pad and face buttons.

Clean the board contacts
3 minDip a cotton swab in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and gently scrub the gold button contact pads on the circuit board.

Clean the silicone pad backing
2 minLightly wipe the dark conductive carbon pads on the underside of the rubber button membranes.

Reinstall the conductive rubber pads
2 minAlign the alignment pegs on the silicone rubber pads with the matching holes on the circuit board.

Install thumbstick caps
2 minPress the thumbstick plastic caps down onto the metallic potentiometer shafts until fully seated.

Place circuit board into front housing
2 minLower the main motherboard into the front shell, verifying all face buttons and the D-pad are positioned properly.

Reseat the rumble motors
2 minPlace the heavy and light rumble weight motors back into their designated plastic cutouts.

Reattach the rear housing
2 minAlign the battery contacts through the rear shell and snap the front and back housings together.

Fasten the security screws
3 minThread and tighten the seven T8 Security Torx screws into the rear shell until snug.

Reinstall batteries and cover
1 minInsert the AA batteries into the battery pack and snap the battery cover back onto the controller.
