The Motorola Razr 40 introduced a more accessible price point to the modern clamshell foldable smartphone market upon its launch. Positioned as a mid range companion to the flagship Razr 40 Ultra (sold as the Razr+ in North America), the standard Razr 40 trades the expansive outer display of its premium sibling for a compact, strip style external OLED screen focused primarily on notifications, media controls, and quick camera previews. Inside, it houses a high refresh rate flexible OLED main panel, providing a full sized smartphone experience that folds down to fit easily in a pocket or small bag. From a design and engineering perspective, the Razr 40 utilizes a dual chassis structure connected by a teardrop style hinge mechanism designed to minimize the internal crease when open. Like most modern clamshell foldables, the internal components are divided across both halves of the device.
