Released as Google's core flagship smartphone in late 2023 alongside the 8 Pro, the Google Pixel 8 introduces the third generation Tensor G3 system on chip, paired with an upgraded 120Hz Actua OLED display and a slightly more compact, rounded aluminum frame than its predecessor. Positioned as a high performance yet handheld friendly device, the Pixel 8 targets users who want Google's flagship computational photography, raw Android software experience, and promised seven year OS update commitment without needing the larger footprint or telephoto camera of the Pro variant. From a hardware construction standpoint, the device features a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus front and back panel anchored by a central aluminum chassis, retaining the iconic rear camera bar design. While this design provides robust structural rigidity and IP68 dust and water resistance, the display glass remains vulnerable to impact damage from drops on hard surfaces.
